CELTM - Certificate in ELT Management

Overview

 

This self-directed distance learning course aims to grow the knowledge, skills and mindset of practising and prospective ELT managers allowing them to demonstrate influence and impact in their institution.

Course Type

This is a self-directed distance learning course that you complete at your own pace. You have one year from the start of the course in which to complete all units and the final assignment. You can start the course at any time.

Learning Hours

 

The course will take around 20 hours including study, end-of-unit tasks and assignment completion.

 

Course Structure

 

The course is composed of 10 units, each with an end-of-unit task to complete; you will receive written feedback from a learning mentor for each end-of-unit task. The units are:

5. Observations and Feedback
6. Teacher Development as an ELT Manager
7. Marketing and Promotion

1. To better understand leadership in general and in the context of ELT in particular.

2. To be better able to handle accreditations and inspections as an ELT manager.

3. To improve interviewing and recruitment in ELT contexts.

4. To advance customer service in ELT contexts.

5. To be able to manage teacher development in ELT.

6. To better understand marketing and promotion in ELT contexts.

7. To improve stakeholder management in ELT.

8. To be better able to manage resources in ELT contexts.

9. To be able to get the best from observations and feedback as an ELT manager.

10. To improve inclusivity and intercultural communication in ELT settings.

The course will appeal to teachers wishing to move into ELT management, newly appointed ELT managers wishing to develop their skills or established managers wishing to reflect on their own practice or prove their competence in ELT management.

● What accreditations ELT centres may need, why accreditations matter and working with accrediting bodies
● How to write policies, standard structures for ELT policies and common mistakes in ELT policy writing
● Handling inspections, record keeping, risk assessments and getting teacher buy in
● Recruitment in ELT, what to look for in ELT CVs, competency based interviewing in ELT and assessing answers

● Identifying potential in newly qualified teachers, inductions for new joiners and mentoring in ELT

● Customer service in ELT, ensuring students have the best experience, gathering feedback and handling complaints

● Dealing with host family issues
● Why lesson observations matter, observation forms
● What to do before, during and after an observation and paperwork required

Assessment


The course is assessed by a 3000 to 4000 word assignment focusing on one of four options each involving an aspect of ELT management.

 

You will receive full written feedback on your assignment from two experienced ELT managers or leadership development professionals.
